Vehicle Connectivity & Data Management
Managed remote access, centralized communication and data management – secure and efficient for bus and train fleets.
Modern public transport vehicles are equipped with numerous digital systems: ticketing, infotainment, diagnostics, cameras, sensors, and more. Managing all these systems can quickly become a challenge.
This solution offers a unified, secure, and flexible platform for managing communications, remote access, data processing, and device management—whether you operate a bus fleet, a tram network, or long-distance transport.
It's not just a remote access tool. It's your gateway to smarter, safer, and more efficient vehicle control—you stay in control.

Key Benefits
- For Bus Operators
Rapid deployment and full compatibility with vehicle constraints and E-certifications make this platform ideal for city and regional bus networks. - For Rail Fleets
High reliability and compliance with rail standards make it perfect for safety-critical operations. - Operational Efficiency
One device for connectivity, access control, monitoring, and data management—no scattered integrations needed. - Lower Costs, Higher Security
Local data processing reduces cellular data usage while maintaining security. - Data Sovereignty
Full control over where and how data is stored or processed—no forced reliance on third-party clouds.
What you can achieve
- Secure Communication
Protect internal and external data flows through VLANs, firewalls, and authenticated access. - Device Management
Centrally control who can access subsystems and monitor health status remotely. - Data Collection & Processing
Aggregate and analyze onboard data—locally or via cloud—to support better decisions. - Deployment Flexibility
Choose between cloud, on-premise, or edge operation—whatever fits your data policy and IT setup.
How It Works
- Digital systems inside the vehicle are connected via a managed network.
Subsystems remain segmented and secure using VLANs and access policies. - Data is collected and processed at the edge, minimizing uploads and latency.
Operators gain real-time insight into system status, performance, and faults. - Remote access is securely managed, with central control over who can access what—and when.
Every connection is logged and can be revoked at any time. - The platform supports modular expansion, so operators can add features as their needs grow—like AI, custom software, or full fleet analytics.
Challenge
ABB integrates traction converters into trains that need to be continuously monitored to ensure performance and safety. However, railway operators—often not the system integrators—may not be authorized to access full control or diagnostic data.
In addition to strict access control requirements, the system had to overcome mobile network challenges such as high latency, intermittent connectivity, and the complexities of managing remote devices across a multi-vendor vehicle environment.
Solution
Parametric delivered a tailored remote maintenance system based on its unified vehicle connectivity platform. At the core is the RAR4000 Mobile Edge Computer, which combines robust hardware security, redundant mobile connectivity, and certified remote access software.
All remote access is centrally managed and fully auditable, ensuring complete traceability and compliance. Internal subsystem communication is secured using a managed Ethernet switch with port-based VLAN segmentation—ensuring isolated and secure data flows within the vehicle.
The solution reflects Parametric’s principle: “Your Infrastructure. Your Rules.” Operators retain full control over who can access what, when, and how—without relying on unsecured third-party tools or cloud intermediaries.
Benefits
- Security: Integrated firewall and VLANs ensure strict separation and safe subsystem access
- Efficiency: Real-time data and remote diagnostics reduce downtime and support fast decision-making
- Traceability: Central audit logs offer complete transparency and help meet compliance needs
- Reliability: Redundant communication channels ensure stable access, even in challenging mobile environments
System Architecture
Designed for Control. Built for Flexibility.
This solution supports a range of deployment strategies:
-
Edge-Based Processing
Process and analyze data directly inside the vehicle for real-time decision-making without relying on network uptime. -
Cloud Integration
Securely transmit selected data to Parametric’s cloud or your own for deep analytics, maintenance planning, or dashboarding. -
On-Premise Compatibility
For operators with strict IT policies, the entire platform can run without cloud access—ensuring full data sovereignty.
All connections are made via secure, outbound-only channels—no open ports or risky inbound links.

Components
